I love working with these bright bold Christmas colors that Christmas candy brings and creating something gorgeous to bring in the Christmas season. Candy themes and Christmas treats are so popular right now and we’ve been working a lot with these themes in design school. Creating a cluster design is such a quick and easy way to make something bold and beautiful and let your creativity shine.
You can make clusters and add them to so many unique bases and create a whole new look. This white twine wreath base we are using for this project is so clean and bright and the perfect backdrop for these bold reds and greens.
The layering of ribbons and greenery and pops of cute Christmas candy create so much depth and dimension. You don’t have to only use wreath bases when you are designing clusters. You can add them to lanterns for a cute front porch accessory. They can be used to create the perfect Holiday centerpiece when it’s your turn to host the family Holiday dinner.

Directions
- Let’s start by creating a cluster to add to our wreath base. Start by putting your frosted pine berry stems at an angle and match it on the opposite angle going downward, holding the stems together in the center. The overlapping stems are your transition point and bow zone.
- Grab your red and white lollipop craft pick and add your cluster. Continue to layer by adding a Christmas gingerbread pick, holding it together in the center. Mirror what you have on the top by adding another gingerbread pick towards the bottom. Adjust the elements to balance the layered cluster.
- Use a cable tie in the center to attach each pick and stem together. Turn the tie to the back and clip the excess. Use another cable tie to attach your cluster on the top left of the inner circle of your wreath base at a slight angle.Â
- Take your large bow we made on Bow Wednesday with the red and white striped ribbon, lime with red and white ribbon, and red velvet with white rick rack ribbon and attach in the center of your cluster into the bow zone. Clip the excess from your cable tie.
- Incorporate the ribbon tails into the design by pulling some behind the greenery. Adjust the layers and cluster elements if necessary and admire your gorgeous creation!
What is Cluster Design in Wreath Making?
As I mentioned before, today’s white twine Christmas candy wreath was using a method called cluster design. A cluster design is when you create a cluster using greenery, craft picks, and other design elements and attach it together so it is independent of the base that you will use.
Different types of bases could be for a wreath, centerpiece, or any other accessory that you can dream up! Once your cluster is created, you can attach it to your base and have a complete design in no time at all. Try it and let your design creativity take your projects to new heights!

- Start by finding cutting the styrofoam so it is nestled inside of the Green Frankenstein Bucket so that it sits nicely inside and glue down. I like to use both Gorilla Glue and Hot Glue to really secure it for both now and long term.
- Cut Black Garland Base into small sections and set your base, spreading for maximum coverage.
- Prep your picks by grabbing your Purple Green Orange Felt Ball Twig Sprays. Sseparating them into smaller picks. You can also twist the black chenille around your finger to create a fun effect.Â
- Trim your Glitter Eye Ball Picks and add to the stryofoam. Be sure to space them for the best visual display.
- Cut and prep the White Black Chenille Curly Stems add some dimension to them by curling with your fingers to really give them life.
- Stem back and look at your your centerpiece. Are thier bald or blank spaces? Fluff you black garland to fill and use the wires in your products from Keleas.com to really get the pieces where you want them.
- Grab one of your Glitter Curly Velvet Ball Picks and trim the stem down to a couple of inches. Fluff out your pick, and then place it to the left of your bow, tucking it behind the bow to have it peek out from behind it.Â
