Sunshine Lemon Door Hanger

July 19, 2022 | DIY Seasonal Decor, Door Hangers, Summer

Fall is right around the corner but we are still soaking up the last bit of Summer! I thought it would be fun to create a sunshine lemon door hanger that you can make for your own door, to add a pop of Summer before Fall stumbles right in.

Check out this bright yellow lemon door hanger is the perfect way to close out the season. Nothing screams summer like lemons and from the street, it looks just like a bright yellow flower which is a win-win in my book! Let’s get started!

Bright Lemon Door Hanger

This Sunshine lemon door hanger design is so quick and easy and the perfect end to the Summer season. It’s a quick cluster design using minimal supplies and a simple bow. The yellow lemon clusters are already paired together with a gorgeous greenery base which makes it so easy to use.

Just to add another bright pop of yellow, we use a small bunch of ranunculus flowers to incorporate into the lemons and greenery. It’s the perfect compliment to the lemon theme!

I can see this door hanger perfect at a Summer pool party serving sweet lemonade for your guests. It would be super cute at even a baby shower and add the perfect bright and cheery touch.

The black and white ribbon in the simple funky bow is such a great compliment to the yellow components of this design. Don’t wait before it’s too late to make your own sunshine lemon door hanger to finish off Summertime!

Directions

  • Start by making a bow. Roll up the end and make an 8” tail with the black and white striped ribbon going upward. Make two 5.5” loops on each side and trim the tail towards the bottom. Roll the ends up.
  • Layer another tail with the same ribbon and roll up each end. Add into the bowmaker having the tail towards the top even with the first tail, and the rest going towards the bottom.
  • Run a cable tie next to the center and pull off the bow, slightly closing the cable tie. Run a second cable tie through the back and tighten completely.
  • Cut a length of ribbon and fold it over itself so the black is showing. Tie around the center to hide the cable tie. Trim the extra off the back.
  • Grab your two lemons with greenery sprays and put the ends together to start creating your clusters.
  • Take the yellow ranunculus bunch and separate into three separate sections. Add to the center and position the ranunculus flowers throughout the lemon and greenery sprays in your cluster.
  • Cable-tie the center together and trim off the stems. Add your cluster on the bottom right side of your lemon base at a diagonal. Layer the bow on top in the center and use the bow’s cable tie to attach it and the cluster to your lemon base.
  • Manipulate the cluster so the lemons and flowers will be up front and move the longer ribbon tails towards the back behind the greenery and florals. Enjoy your last pop of Summer!

How to create a wreath using the cluster design method?

This quick and easy project is a cluster design. This is a technique we like to use to create quick and easy simple pieces that still have depth and dimension. There is not floral foam to build into, it’s simply clustering together greenery and floral sprays to add onto a base of your choice.

A simple bow is a great way to finish it off and fill in the natural “bow zone” that you can make when you are creating a cluster. Have fun with flowers and experiment with this cluster technique in your next design.

  • Cut Black Garland Base into small sections and set your base, spreading for maximum coverage.
  • Prep your picks by grabbing your Purple Green Orange Felt Ball Twig Sprays. Sseparating them into smaller picks. You can also twist the black chenille around your finger to create a fun effect.
  • Trim your Glitter Eye Ball Picks and add to the stryofoam. Be sure to space them for the best visual display.
  • Cut and prep the White Black Chenille Curly Stems add some dimension to them by curling with your fingers to really give them life.
  • Stem back and look at your your centerpiece. Are thier bald or blank spaces? Fluff you black garland to fill and use the wires in your products from Keleas.com to really get the pieces where you want them.
  • Grab one of your Glitter Curly Velvet Ball Picks and trim the stem down to a couple of inches. Fluff out your pick, and then place it to the left of your bow, tucking it behind the bow to have it peek out from behind it.
