I just love making bows and I especially love teaching you all how to make bows too. (And this funky bow tutorial is so much fun – Tails going up and down all over the place!)
Flamingo Bow Directions
- Start by making a funky bow using your EZ Bowmaker. We will be making a 2-1 recipe.
- Add the 3” pink, green, with white polka dot ribbon on the spool and measure a 8” tail. Gather the center and add into the dowels.
- Make one 6” loop on your first side, twisting at the center in your dowel rod to create 3 more loops alternating sides. Create another tail going the opposite direction from your first, making it a FUNKY bow. Cut at an opposite angle.
- Grab your flamingo ribbon and create your first 8” tail. Insert so it will go up and opposite your first tail. Make your first loop 5.5” in length. Make a second loop, and pull your next tail opposite. Cut from spool.
- Grab your cable tie and run it beside your dowel to secure it. Gently bring the bow up, adding pressure on top, and secure it together. Pull the cable tie tight on the back. Trim the excess.
- Add a second cable tie to the back so it can easily be fastened to your next craft project. Manipulate your loops and tails to be fluffed and full.
- To the center, let’s add some pink from your 1st ribbon to make your bow really pop.
- Cut down halfway through the ribbon. That cut should be about 8” in length. Fold over itself, so the green and white are hidden and only the pink section remains. Tie around the center to hide the cable ties. Cut the extra ribbon from the back.
Lady Bug Directions
- Start by making a funky bow using your EZ Bowmaker. We will be making a 2-3-1 recipe.
- Add the 3” yellow stripe with ladybug ribbon on the spool and measure an 8” tail. Gather the center and add to the dowels.
- Make one 6” loop on your first side, twisting at the center in your dowel rod to create 3 more loops on alternating sides. Create another tail going the opposite direction from your first, making it a FUNKY bow. Cut at an opposite angle.
- Grab your red with white polka dot ribbon and create your first 8” tail. Cut the ribbon end at an angle. Insert so it will go up and opposite your first tail.
- Make your first loop 6” in length. Make 5 more loops, alternating sides so you have 3 total loops on each side of your center. This is continuing in our 2-3-1 recipe for the bow.
- Pull your next tail opposite. Cut from the spool at an angle.
- To complete the 2-3-1 recipe, bring back over your ladybug ribbon creating a shorter 6” tail. Trim at an angle.
- Make another pair of ribbon loops, slightly smaller to pop that yellow from the back a bit forward.
- Grab your cable tie and run it beside your dowel to secure it. Gently bring the bow up, adding pressure on top and secure together. Pull the cable tie tight on the back. Trim the excess.
- Add a second cable tie to the back so it can easily be fastened to your next craft project.
- Manipulate your loops and tails to be fluffed and full. Coordinate your ribbon placement so the designs alternate.
- Cut down halfway through the red polka dot ribbon. That cut should be about an 8” length. Fold over itself. Place it so your dots are showing in the center. Tie around the center to hide the cable ties. Cut the extra ribbon from the back.
What makes a funky bow different from a traditional bow?
Traditional bows are beautiful, and I use them all the time. The big, full loops up top and ribbon tails hanging down, are a classic for many of my projects. But when I want to be a little more fun and crazy in my design, a funky bow always does the trick. Funky bows have your ribbon tails going both up and down from the center. The loops are still big and full, but the tail placement just makes the bow a little more… how should I say it? Well, FUNKY! Ha! Which do you prefer?

- Cut Black Garland Base into small sections and set your base, spreading for maximum coverage.
- Prep your picks by grabbing your Purple Green Orange Felt Ball Twig Sprays. Sseparating them into smaller picks. You can also twist the black chenille around your finger to create a fun effect.
- Trim your Glitter Eye Ball Picks and add to the stryofoam. Be sure to space them for the best visual display.
- Cut and prep the White Black Chenille Curly Stems add some dimension to them by curling with your fingers to really give them life.
- Stem back and look at your your centerpiece. Are thier bald or blank spaces? Fluff you black garland to fill and use the wires in your products from Keleas.com to really get the pieces where you want them.
- Grab one of your Glitter Curly Velvet Ball Picks and trim the stem down to a couple of inches. Fluff out your pick, and then place it to the left of your bow, tucking it behind the bow to have it peek out from behind it.
