Plus, it’s a great way to use up some of those lemon clusters. Which makes it SOO easy to make a wreath. Ready to get started? Follow along as I teach you how!

DIY Clematis Wreath with Lemons

I have been going crazy for all things Clematis. I was inspired when I saw the bold and bright white Clematis flowers. They reminded me of a lemon blossom so I thought they would go great together in a simple cluster wreath!

The best part about this design is that all the greenery is already in place for you. This is a perfect example of the cluster method. Where you create the design and can attach it to a wreath base or another base of your choice to create a quick and gorgeous design. Let me show you how easy it can be!

This lemon Clematis wreath is so fresh and bright that it is sure to bring a smile to everyone’s face. The bright white color in the Clematis flowers is the perfect compliment to the little white blooms on the lemon vines. We are also working with something we don’t usually use which is a chunky wreath base. They have a strong wire frame inside and are covered with brown, natural looking angel vine. The deep brown is a perfect background to the bright yellow and white from the lemons and Clematis flowers.

When you are working with a chunky grapevine wreath base, it’s important to keep in mind the placing of your florals and greenery. Don’t be afraid to try some things out. Lay out your items on your base. This allows you to work out where you want the different elements to be. Then you have no regrets when you attach them to the wire frame.

The cluster method works well with this because it is easy to move the cluster to new spots on the wreath and decide where you want to place the final product. Let’s jump in and have some fun with flowers!

Directions

  • Start by making a bow using your EZ Bowmaker. Add the 4” yellow with black and white check back on the spool and measure a 16” tail. Gather the center and add into the dowels.
  • Make one 7” loop and dovetail the ends. Add another tail about 10” long and make one 5” loop on each side. Dovetail the ends.
  • Run a cable tie along the center and pull off the bow. Tighten, not all the way, and fluff the loops and tails. Add another cable tie through the back and cinch the first one closed.
  • Cut down halfway through the ribbon and cut about a 12” length. Fold over itself and tie around the center to hide the cable ties. Cut the extra ribbon from the back.
  • Intertwine one lemon with leaves stem and one white Clematis stem to create one cluster. Use floral wire to tie them together, at the top and bottom, and “shake hands” with them to add lots of movement and dimension. Repeat the same process with another lemon and Clematis stem to create a second cluster.
  • Grab your wreath frame and play with the placement of your cluster design. Overlap the ends of the stems and place at a slight diagonal on the right side. Check to see if your bow will fit in between the florals.
  • Cable tie both cluster stems together in a few separate places and cut the extra stem from the back. Shape the flowers and rotate any greenery that was flattened.
  • Run a cable tie over the top that will attach the cluster to the wreath base. Attach the bow first to the cluster. Run the long tails behind the florals. Add the cluster with bow to the wreath base on the bottom right side at a slight angle.
  • Use an awl to find a hole in the angel vine base to run the cable tie through and around a support wire. Secure the cluster with bow onto the base and trim the extra cable tie.
  • Fluff and manipulate the greenery, flowers, and bow once they are on the wreath base and secure.
