Cardinal Snowman Wreath

November 16, 2021 | Christmas, DIY Seasonal Decor, Wreath Tutorials

Learn how to make a beautiful, winter themed cardinal snowman wreath in this step by step tutorial. This is the perfect holiday decoration for the home or office.

Do you know what it means when you spot a red cardinal? It is said that if you are lucky enough to spot a cardinal, it should bring a smile to your face.  Red cardinals represent deceased loved ones, who are watching over you. I have also heard that spotting a cheerful red cardinal means that your family member or friend is safe and happy, even if they are far away. So when I spotted this ribbon, I had to get it!

Who wouldn’t want a beautiful winter wreath with cardinals when they pretty much warm your heart just on sight? In this tutorial, I will walk you through how to create this beauty of a wreath using large winter-themed ribbons. A friendly snowman, and a trusty grapevine wreath. Heck, I might even inspire you to become a bird watcher. On the lookout searching for all the cardinals, you can find this winter season. But first, let’s craft!

Cardinal Snowman Wreath

Cardinals are a symbol of hope and joy, particularly near the Christmas season. And snowmen, well… They are just plain cute! When you combine the 2, you have a spectacular winter wreath in your hands. The use of reds, greys, and greenery just make this a complete must for your winter home decor or a top seller for your shop.

No one wants to add any stress to their already hectic holiday season. Because we know it is always a bit more hectic than we want it to be. So let me be clear when I say creating this wreath is stress-free. No need to worry your mind or feel a little less than festive when tackling this craft. In this step-by-step tutorial, I will walk you through how to create stunning winter home decor.

Throughout this project, I will teach you how to balance out your designs and many other great techniques. I love teaching and enjoy doing that in my Design School. We will discuss why we “shake hands” or “create depth and dimension” for your projects. These terms are not meant to scare you, but to get you feeling comfortable in the crafting world! Let me teach you step-by-step how to do just that. Be sure to check out my design school if you are interested in learning more about creating your own designs.

This is a simple project and you can have a one-of-a-kind winter decor in little to no time. Be sure to grab your supplies and follow along with me in the tutorial video! Just remember to have some fun and check back soon for new videos and instructions.

Directions

  • Get your 18” grapevine mounted on your workspace for good visual creation. Determine a transition point on your grapevine when you will begin to adjust your floral and greenery. One angle will move up and over around your wreath.
  • Cut your frosty greenery bundle into some sections with wire cutters from your main bundle. Work your greenery into your grapevine. Use the angle you place it in to hold it secure, along with some hot glue. Use some pieces of pine to cover your hot glue if needed.
  • Space it out as you begin. Place your pieces pointing up and out on your grapevine. Grab your Icicle Berry Pine Cone Stems. Work those pieces so they are nice and full. In Design School, we call this “Shaking Hands” with our greenery. You will be adding several of these stems, and they are so dang pretty.
  • Dip the ends of the stem into the hot glue and work it down through your grapevine guts. Have it stand up nice and high up top. Add some poking out the side on the base of your wreath. Add another Red Berry Greenery to add a new level of texture to our wreath. Shake hands with your stem, keeping its full length of the greenery section. You may need to trim the excess stem because it is rather long. Don’t trim it too short as we want it to stick down securely into our grapevine.
  • Insert that greenery, with 1 following with the angle going up and the other swooping up. Creating a C-shape wreath with dimension and depth. Let’s add our premade Cardinal bow to our wreath. Check out this tutorial on How to Make Large Christmas Bows! You will be a master in no time.
  • Tuck your zip-tied bow to your wreath in the bottom left corner, where your greenery has set off from. Secure it with your zip tie. Play with placement and greenery to make sure it is keeping the beauty of the bow, berries, and greenery
  • Pull those ribbon tails so they trail down the potential door they will be hung up on. Curl ribbon tails, pull greenery through, and continue to build on your overall vision for this design. Make it eye-appealing and beautiful.
  • Next, let’s add our sweet Little Snowman. I love her and the cute little cardinals that tie into the ribbon from the large bow we just placed. Trim the stem just a bit and place your snowman up the top of your bow. Place her so she is tucked away just enough, but still allows for you to see all of her great details.
  • The wreath needs a bit more greenery so let’s add in this eucalyptus bundle. Since these pieces are different from our other greenery, pay attention to placement. Keep it consistent as you add it throughout your wreath. You will not need a lot, but just enough to fill in gaps and balance it all out.
  • To add a hanger, just grab some pipe cleaners by weaving it through your grapevine up top on the back. Pay attention so that your wreath will hang straight on your door.
  • Step back and look at your wreath. Make any adjustments where you see fit. Be sure that the bow’s loops are full and fancy. Tails are hanging prettily. Greenery and berries maintain a consistent flow with your angles.

Can you believe it? You just created a beautiful Cardinal Snowman Wreath! It looks so great. Come back soon so we can have some more fun with flowers next time.
