Directions

  • Start by dovetailing your first tail by cutting a V at the end of your first 2.5” ribbon. I decided to start with a fun, red and white stripe ribbon.
  • I made my first tail about 8” long. Put your ribbon in between the pegs on your bow maker, and give it a nice twist.
  • Make your first loop by guiding your ribbon out, then back to the center pegs, adding a twist between the pegs by twisting your right hand forward and your left hand back. I made my loops 6.5”. Repeat this step to make a matching loop on the other side.
  • One of your tails will go up, one will go down. Measure and cut your second tail at 8” to match your other. Cut a dovetail in the second tail.
  • Add your second 2.5” ribbon, and follow the steps above to create a second bow on top of the first. These tails should be about 7” and the loops should be about 6”. I created 4 loops with this second ribbon, 2 loops on each side.
  • Now add back in your first ribbon, and follow the same steps to create a third bow on top of the other two. These tails should be about 6” and the loops should be about 4”. I created 2 loops again with this third ribbon, 1 loop on each side.
  • Now add your first 1.5” ribbon, and follow the same steps to create a fourth bow on top of the other three. These tails should be about 6” and the loops should be about 4” again. I created 4 loops again with this fourth ribbon, 2 loops on each side.
  • Now add your second 1.5” ribbon, and follow the same steps to create a fifth bow on top of the other three. These tails should be about 6” and the loops should be about 4” again. I created 2 loops again with this fourth ribbon, 1 loop on each side.
  • Run your cable tie behind the ribbon between the pegs, loosely tighten it, then carefully pull it up and off your bow maker.
  • Rotate the tail of your cable tie to the back of the bow, add a cable tie through the first cable tie to help you attach the bow to your wreath or project, and tighten it as tight as you can.
  • Take a little strip of your ribbon (I chose the solid purple) and wrap it around the center of your bow to cover the cable tie, securely tie it in the back, then fluff your bow,

TIPS AND TRICKS

  • Change your ribbons to make bows that match whatever type of decor you are creating. Make a smaller version for a wreath or swag. Add multiple smaller bows to your tree. Let the versatility of this fun bow shine!
  • If you’d rather use a cable tie, be sure to add a second to the back to attach it easily to your tree or project.
  • I used wide ribbons for this bow, 2.5” and 1.5” ribbons, and I think works best. But you are free to use this same bow with any ribbon you’d like to match your wreath. Your bow will be more floppy if you use a ribbon that is not wire-edged.

Can I use different colors of ribbon for this project?

Absolutely! The beauty of the Loopy Funky Bow project lies in its versatility and creativity. Feel free to unleash your inner rainbow and experiment with a variety of ribbon colors to match your mood, theme, or floral arrangement. Whether you’re craving bold and vibrant hues or soft and pastel shades, mixing and matching ribbon colors adds a playful touch to your bows and allows you to personalize your floral designs with a pop of color that’s uniquely you.

How do I ensure my bow stays securely attached to my project?

If you’re using the cable tie method I do, you don’t need to worry about your bow going anywhere! I love using cable ties because they are sturdy and easy to find at your local hardware store. You could also use 18 gauge wire, if you want to use wire instead of cable ties. Either way, your bow isn’t going anywhere!
