There are so many options for bows that are beautiful on wreaths. They can range from so simple to incredibly intricate. This Simple Wreath Bow is one of my go-to’s because it’s so easy to pull together but looks amazing on nearly any wreath.
Step-by-Step Guide to Creating a Beautifully Simple Wreath Bow
Bows are a great way to finish up a wreath. They can make a simple wreath look much more put together or completed. You can use a holiday-themed bow to tell the story of the holiday or add new colors or textures to your wreath. They are definitely a powerful tool in your wreath-making!
There are so many types of bows. I love using wire edged ribbon so my loops stand up away from the wreath, adding more dimension to my wreath. You can have bows that sit more flush with the wreath or that are intertwined with the elements of your wreath. The possibilities are endless!

I love a simple bow. Wreath making can already be a longer process, so having a simple bow that needs only a few supplies but that is beautiful and transforms your wreath, is perfect for me. The best part is that even the most beginner crafter can make this beautiful bow.
Ingredients
Directions
- Grab your 2.5” ribbon and bow maker. Decide how long you want your tails to be. I decided on 20”. Cut your end at a slant or with a ribbon cut.
- Once you’ve measured your tail, create your first loop by pinching at the 20” mark, and placing that between your two center pegs. Create your first loop, however big or small you’d like it. I did a 6” loop. Then place it between the center pegs and give it a good twist.
- Do the same for your second loop. Be sure your loops are the same size for a symmetrical look. Repeat these steps for as many loops as you’d like. I decided on 4 loops, two on each side.
- When you have as many loops as you’d like, measure and cut your second tail so it’s the same length as your first. Now grab your narrower ribbon. I decided on a 1.5” ribbon. Measure and cut your tail, just like the first ribbon.
- Follow the same steps to create the loops in the narrower ribbon. I made 2, one for each side. Trim your second tail to match the first.
- Put your zip tie under your ribbon, and gently pull the ribbon off the bow maker, carefully so you don’t mess up your loops. Loosely close your zip tie before the ribbon is all the way off the bow maker, and then remove it completely. Rotate your zip tie to the back of your bow, and then start fluffing. This helps your bow to be dimensional and not sit flat against your wreath.
- Take a short piece of ribbon and fold it in half lengthwise. Then wrap it around the center of your bow, covering up your zip tie. Tie it in the back, and your bow is all ready!
TIPS AND TRICKS
- I love to use my bows to tell a story about the holiday. Add a Valentine’s Day themed bow to a wreath, and it’s immediately holiday decor! Create bows for each month, holiday, or season and switch out your bows through the year for a fun holiday decor piece.
- You can definitely make this bow without a bow maker. You’ll pinch the ribbon between your fingers when the instructions say to place the ribbon between the two center pegs. Be sure you grasp it well, though, or the loops will fall out.
Can I Use Non Wired Ribbon?
You definitely can. You’ll need to keep in mind that, without the wire, the larger your loops are, the more bendy they will be. They won’t be able to hold their shape like wire edged ribbon would. Non-wire-edged ribbon would work really well with a small bow, though. You could make 3 or 4 and intersperse them around your wreath for a different look!
What Else Can I Use This Bow for?
There is so much that these bows could be used for. I have added them to my curtain ties before, just making my curtain ties a little more fancy. I’ve seen them used on chairs at weddings, or around vases to give as gifts. There is so much you can use this bow for.
