Let’s get our sunflowers on! I have two beautiful bows that we made earlier that are perfect for today’s wreath with sunflowers. Watch as I teach you how to make a beautiful wreath using some ribbon and sunflowers.
Learn to Make a Wreath with Sunflowers
This sunflower wreath is perfect for fall! It’s easy to make and looks great on your door or wall. Plus, it has two bows for a touch of extra charm. We are cheating a little on our gorgeous wreath today by using a couple of bows that we made beforehand.
It’s fun to pair two bows in one design that still complements each other well. Be sure to check out how to make bows if you need more help with bow-making. One of our bows is more traditional with a gorgeous wide yellow with green. You’ll notice it has a white gingham border in the back layered with sunflower ribbon in front.
Our second bow resembles a flower itself, using the same white sunflower ribbon and a narrower green gingham pattern. They are both different yet complement each other and the greenery so well!
The greenery I am using really does look amazing in this design. It has touches of yellow that tie the whole thing together. The premium stems we use are all wired which makes it easy to manipulate each stem and blossom to face the direction you want them to go. The best part of this amazing wreath is that it can be put together super quickly! Let’s get started!
Ingredients
5/8″ Green Yellow White Classica Check Ribbon on a 10 Yard Roll
2.5″ Yellow Linen with Green and White Gingham Edge Ribbon on a 10 Yard Roll34″ Mixed Green Spray
Yellow Berry Flower Filler Bush
Directions
- Add a wire hanger to the back of your wreath base by making a loop and twisting both ends into the base.
- Grab two yellow berry flower filler bushes and spread and fluff each stem. Cut the extra stems off the bottom and into a few separate pieces. “Shake hands” with the individual stems.
- Take a couple of lambs’ ears and Eucalyptus bushes and “shake hands” with each stem. Cut the extra stem from the bottom and separate it.
- Dip the ends of the lamb’s ear into your hot glue pot and add to your base starting at the top. Add into the left and bottom sides as well. Cover any exposed hot glue with Spanish moss. Insert another piece on the right side.
- Use hot glue to add yellow berry flower filler stems next to each lamb’s ear stem. Add a few more yellow berry filler stems throughout the base near the lamb’s ear and Eucalyptus.
- Take your yellow budding Eucalyptus stems and “shake hands” with the stems. Cut the extra stem off the bottom of the stem. Add some yellow budding Eucalyptus near the clusters of greenery along your base.
- Grab your larger bow with yellow linen and green gingham edge and sunflower ribbon and attach to the bottom right of your wreath using the cable tie. Use your fingers to curl up the ends of the tails.
- Add your yellow sunflower “flower” bow to the top left of the base using a cable tie. Use the remainder of your stems and greenery to fill in any spots behind or near both bows. Trim the tails slightly shorter if necessary and curl up the ends with your fingers.
Don’t feel intimidated by something that can look complicated or overwhelming to make. Half of the work in most of these projects is prepping the different elements you will add to your design.
Think of it a lot like cooking! Prepping your ingredients is where most of the work comes into play. The fun part is getting to put it all together, as well as creating something that is beautiful and will brighten someone’s day!
What size wreath base do you use with a large bow?
I’m frequently asked what size wreath base to use with a large bow. It depends on the size of the bow, but in general a 16″ wreath base works well. You could also use a 24″ or larger wreath base if you want to make a really big bow. If you’re not sure what size to use, just experiment until you find the look that you like best.
