Perfect Halloween Bow Tutorials

August 9, 2022 | Uncategorized

Halloween is just around the corner, and that means it’s time to start thinking about how you’re going to decorate your home. If you’re looking for a quick and easy way to add some flair to your designs, why not try making a Halloween bow? In this post, we’ll share a tutorial for perfect Halloween bows.

4 Halloween Bows

Halloween Bow Tutorials

These Halloween blast-off bows give your audience a design that is eye-catching for any project you are working on. So these Halloween bows, made with the Blast-Off Design, are nothing short of spooktacular. In fact, I think that they are just plain BOOOOOtiful. (I should have used a ghost ribbon, but the Witch’s Hat and Glittery Halloween Colors are still pretty cute!) So let’s get started on creating some of your own Halloween Bows right now!

Halloween is my absolute favorite holiday to make crafts for my own home, and yours too! And making Halloween Bows on Wednesday night is my personal idea of good old-time. So no matter the ribbon choices you choose, making these blast-off bows will be the highlight of your week. These Halloween Bows are definitely going to turn out hauntingly perfect!

These bows can be so interchangeable and unique to your style and design goals. Determining which ribbons to use for your primary design and its complimentary ribbon selections are completely up to you. I also love that you can determine the accessories you want to make your piece as personal or as customizable for your clients who are requesting a specific look. So many options to choose from, and so much fun creating/playing with all those choices.

I love creating the Blast-Off bow and reversing the ribbons in my designs. Creating reversed bows adds such a fun look to your projects if you decide to add them both to your wreaths, swags, or floral arrangements. It is always a great idea to bring your ribbons in the back up to the front to create a fun pattern, dimension, and design.

I love how the use of the same two ribbons when used with different layers in your 3, 2, 1 recipe can provide you with more of a subtle look or even a bold look. It blows my mind how this can be achieved even when using the same exact 2 ribbons. Playing with ribbon choices can be so much fun and that 3, 2, 1 Blast-off recipe is the best! Don’t you agree?

Ingredients

  • E-Z bow maker

  • Cable Ties

  • 2.5 inch Witch Ribbon

  • Glitter Ribbon

Witch’s Hat Bow – 2 ways Directions

  • Start with the 2.5” Witch’s Hat ribbon and add the spool on your EZ Bow Maker. Make a 20” tail, after snipping the end on an angle. Twist in the center and make 7” loops on each side. Always twist your ribbon in the center to make sure the pattern is facing out.
  • Repeat the same process adding two more 7” loops on each side for a total of three. Fluff as you go. Pinch the center down with your loops complete. Do not flatten your ribbon.
  • Trim your 20” tail at an opposite angle of your first tail.
  • Fluff as you go as you are making 3 loops on each side of your bow.
  • The second layer of your blast-off bow will be with your secondary ribbon. We are using the Green Glitter with a Purple Edge. Trim your ribbon tail so it is a little shorter than your first layer.  Make 6” loops for a total of two on each side, remembering to twist and pinch in the center
  • The last layer of your blast-off bow will be the Witch’s Hat ribbon again. Trim your tails at an angle slightly shorter than the previous layer. Make 5” loops on each side and trim the tail. Decrease as we come back to the middle.
  • Run your cable tie right beside the center of the bow maker and pinch the center of the bow as you lift the ribbon from the Bow Maker. Cinch the cable tie just enough to hold it together so you can take it off. Rotate the cable tie end to the back and start by fluffing and spacing out your back loops first. Continue through each layer of your bow, making sure each loop has its own plane.
  • Add a second cable tie through the back before tightening the first tie. Snip off the excess with your wire cutters. Use a small 12” piece of your green ribbon and fold it over and tie it around the center of your bow to hide your zip ties. Trim the extra from the back.
  • The SECOND WAY to create this bow is to reverse the order in which you layer your ribbons. Use the Green Glitter ribbon on your first layer of 3 loops on each side. Then as your secondary ribbon, bring in your Witch’s Hat ribbon for layer 2 of 4 total loops in all. Complete the bow with your Green Glitter ribbon, maintaining the 3, 2, 1 recipe.

  • Let’s create this next bow using the same 3, 2, 1 blast-off bow recipe as before.
  • We’ll start with the 2.5” Stripey Purple, Orange, and Green Glitter ribbon and add the spool on your EZ Bow Maker.
We are using the Black Glitter with White Edge ribbon. Trim your ribbon tail so it is a little shorter than your first layer.  Make 6” loops for a total of two on each side, remembering to twist and pinch in the center
  • The last layer of your blast-off bow will be the Stripey Purple, Orange, and Green Glitter ribbon again.
Use a small 12” piece of your Black ribbon and fold over and tie around the center of your bow to hide your zip ties. Trim the extra from the back.
  • The SECOND WAY to create this bow is to reverse the order in which you layer your ribbons. Use the Black Glitter with White Edge ribbon on your first layer of 3 loops on each side. Then as your secondary ribbon, bring in your Stripey Purple, Orange, and Green Glitterribbon for layer 2 of 4 total loops in all. Complete the bow with your Black Glitter with White Edge ribbon, maintaining the 3, 2, 1 recipe.

How do you get your bows to be so fluffy?

When making your loops, you want to ensure that you have enough ribbon to create a large, loose loop to begin with. You should be able to see that circular loop-like shape as you are forming them and inserting your ribbons back into the EZ bow Maker. It should never be flat, but instead nice and round. It should have motion/movement to give you that fluffy look that you want! Play with it, practice, and have fun.
