Directions
- Start by creating your first tail by measuring from the end of your ribbon, the length of your tail. I decided on a long tail, so I measured 26”. Cut off the end of your ribbon a little extra long. Then fold the edge down to create a nice, finished edge.
- Place your ribbon between the pegs on your bow maker. With a wide ribbon like this, you’ll want to pleat the center to gather it in between the pegs.
- Create your first loop by looping the ribbon out and then back to the pegs on your bow maker. I decided to make my loops about 6.5”. Twist your ribbon in between the pegs.
- Create another loop by following the same steps. Cut off the end of your ribbon extra long, maybe even a little longer than your first ribbon. Then fold the edge down to create a nice, finished edge.
- Start with your same ribbon again. Fold the end of the ribbon on itself a couple of times. Choose how long these tails will be. I went with a little shorter than my wider ribbon, about 16”.
- Create 2 loops again, following the same steps above. I made them much smaller, 5” loops.
- Cut your ribbon a little longer than your other tail, and fold it a couple times again.
- Thread your cable tie behind your ribbon, then carefully remove the ribbon from the bow maker. Tighten your cable tie a little and rotate it to the back of the bow.
- Fluff and arrange your loops and tails, add a second cable tie perpendicular to the other, then tighten the first cable tie all the way.
- Cut a small piece of your ribbon, about 8” long, fold it in thirds lengthwise, then tie it around the center of your bow.
- Your bow is ready to go on your project!
TIPS AND TRICKS
- Switch up your ribbons to create some unique looks, if you’d like. I think that wire-edged ribbons work best, but you can try a variety of sizes and patterns. This will switch up the way your bow looks and can help it match your wreath perfectly!
- Make the bow your own! If you’d like more loops, add them. You can follow the same steps to create as many loops as you’d like.
- If you’d rather use wire than a cable tie, 18 gauge works perfect for bows.
- Consider adding embellishments like floral picks, ornaments, or berries for extra flair and seasonal charm.
- Step back periodically to assess the placement and appearance of the bow, making any necessary adjustments for optimal results.
